This award honors an employment support staff who goes above and beyond for individuals every day!
INAPSE is proud to recognize Erin Richardson of The Arc of Greater Boone County as the recipient of the 2025 Employment Specialist Spotlight Award. This quarterly award honors an employment support staff who goes above and beyond in supporting individuals with disabilities to achieve meaningful, competitive employment and Erin exemplifies this standard in every way.
“ Erin’s strength lies in her ability to build authentic, professional relationships with the individuals she serves.”
According to her supervisor, Troy Frisz, who nominated her, Erin’s strength lies in her ability to build authentic, professional relationships with the individuals she serves. Her person-centered approach goes far beyond surface-level job placement; she takes the time to understand the motivations, interests, and challenges unique to each person. This deeper insight allows her to tailor services in ways that are truly impactful, empowering individuals to find not just jobs, but a sense of purpose and direction.
At the core of Erin’s work is an innovative and persistent approach to workplace accommodations. She not only identifies what support is needed, but also works to understand why those supports matter, enabling her to advocate for accommodations that are both realistic and sustainable. Her creative problem-solving has opened doors for individuals who may have otherwise been overlooked.
Erin’s strategy for successful employment includes a hands-on, collaborative approach with both individuals and employers. Her ongoing work with GXO, a competitive employment partner, demonstrates her commitment to lasting job matches. Erin maintains a regular presence at the workplace, observing dynamics, advising supervisors, and implementing adjustments that improve workflow and retention. Her embedded support ensures both the employee and the employer benefit from the relationship.
She is equally skilled in communicating with employers to create inclusive environments. Erin has led efforts to adapt workspaces based on individual needs—such as coordinating visual aids and ASL signage for an employee who uses ASL and advocating for workstation modifications that improve mobility and reduce strain. These thoughtful adjustments not only support the employee but also help employers recognize the value of inclusive hiring practices.
Erin Richardson’s work exemplifies the mission of supported employment and the power of inclusive workplaces. INAPSE is honored to celebrate her achievements and shine a spotlight on the difference she makes in the lives of individuals, employers, and the broader community. Congratulations, Erin!
